Michael Hanchard is the Presidential Professor of Political Science and Director of the Program in Racism, Immigration and Citizenship at Johns Hopkins University.

Hanchard is the inaugural Society of Black Alumni Presidential Professor. A scholar of comparative politics specializing in nationalism, social movements, racial hierarchy, and citizenship, Hanchard taught previously at Northwestern University, where he was a professor of political science and African American studies and director of the Institute for Diasporic Studies. Hanchard currently co-directs the Racism, Immigration, and Citizenship Program at Hopkins. His books include Orpheus and Power: Afro-Brazilian Social Movements in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Brazil, 1945-1988 (1994) and Party/Politics: Horizons in Black Political Thought (2006). Professor Hanchard holds a BA from Tufts University, an MA from the New School for Social Research, and a PhD from Princeton University.

The mini-seminar will be for two hours on Monday, January 11, Tuesday, January 12, and Wednesday, January 13th.
