hundreds of UCI students who have experienced the spiritual
joy and fulfillment associated with singing in Gospel Choir.
James Calhoun, Director/Lecturer is also Director of Music at
the Historic Second
Baptist Church of Los Angeles, and has participated in
the direction of Gospel Choirs throughout the United States.
His wealth of experience and knowledge of Gospel Music makes
for a truly inspirational experience. Students learn about
and perform a variety of African-American musical styles including
Negro Spirituals, as well as traditional and contemporary gospel
styles. The Gospel Choir gives at least two live performances
each quarter. The course may be repeated for credit. Don't
