Visiting Chair in Modern Greek Studies, McGill University, Montreal Canada
The Faculty of Arts at McGill University invites applications for the Phrixos B. Papachristidis Chair in Modern Greek Studies. This is a visiting position, with an appointment of up to three years. The Chair is open with respect to discipline, but preference will be given to candidates with research and teaching interests in modern Greek language and literature. Candidates with other interests in the humanities and social sciences are also encouraged to apply. Fluency in modern Greek is a requirement for the position. The Chair holder will have a mandate to cooperate in the development of a Minor degree in Modern Greek Studies and to collaborate in the development of Montreal's Interuniversity Centre for Neo-Hellenic Studies. The application should also include materials pertinent to the teaching skills of the applicant. The appointment start date is flexible. HMCC is seeking a full-time Resident Curator/Manager of Collections to oversee
the daily operations of its exhibitions, archives and to oversee collection-related activities.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Development, planning and exhibitions, including exhibit maintenance and planning for the permanent exhibitions for the museum's new permanent facility.
- Work with the Exhibitions Committee on the development of new exhibitions.
- Collaborate with invited Guest Curators on exhibitions.
- Plan and oversee collection-related activities.
- Develop and/or revise policies and best practices for the HMCC archives.
- Contribute to the development of exhibition related educational programs.
- Recruit, train and supervise part-time archives staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Catalog artifacts, photographs, documents, books, and audio/visual recordings.
- Work with Museum's Executive Director and Museum Board members for outreach to potential collection donors.
- Serve as media spokesperson regarding collections-related issues and activities.
- Grant research.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in either Art History, Cultural History, Ethnic Studies, Modern or Ancient Greek Studies, Museum Studies or other related fields.
- Museum and/or gallery experience.
- Extremely organized and detail-oriented.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Masters degree or higher.
- Excellent English writing skills; fluency and literacy in modern Greek a plus.
- Knowledge of exhibition development, preservation and conservation, and collection development.
- Experience with PastPerfect museum software a plus.
Special consideration will be given to individuals with Greek literacy and
experience working with museum collections. The ideal candidate is able
to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment, and has excellent organizational
skills. The position becomes available in October 2006.

Responsibilities:
The Princeton University Library seeks an energetic and creative subject specialist to build library collections and help shape library services in four fields in the humanities at Princeton: Classics, Germanic Languages and Literatures, Hellenic Studies, and Linguistics. This librarian will also work closely with the Departments of History, Art and Archaeology, and other relevant area and interdisciplinary studies programs. This is one of six professional positions devoted to developing and interpreting Princeton's collections in the humanities and social sciences. The position reports to the Associate University Librarian for Collection Development. Responsibilities include: current and retrospective collection building in all formats; managing sizable acquisitions funds and associated approval plans; advising on preservation, digitization, and other aspects of collection maintenance, including offsite storage; overseeing collections in study rooms in Firestone Library; and providing specialized research assistance to Princeton University faculty and students, researchers affiliated with neighboring institutions, and visiting scholars from the U.S. and abroad. The librarian also provides instruction in the use of print and electronic materials for philological, literary, cultural, and historical research; creates resource guides and Web sites to assist Princeton researchers; has a direct service presence in the Research and Instructional Services Department; consults with members of the Technical Services Department to facilitate timely acquisitions and processing of materials to meet academic deadlines; and works closely with staff in Rare Books and Special Collections on acquisitions and to promote use of the wealth of original and specialized material at Princeton. This librarian represents Princeton in the relevant regional, national, and international professional and scholarly organizations.
Qualifications:
Required: an ALA-accredited Master's degree in library science, plus an advanced degree in one of the disciplines associated with this position, or an equivalent combination of education and professional library experience; proficiency in Latin, Greek, Modern Greek, and German; a minimum of three years of successful experience in a research library. Candidates must demonstrate mastery of the bibliographic tools, including electronic resources, available for the use of researchers in the humanities and social sciences. Candidates should be knowledgeable about the American and European book trades, current and antiquarian, and the changing technological environment in research libraries; they should also demonstrate an interest in developing innovative services for researchers. Preferred: successful teaching experience, either in the classroom or in library instruction; experience with cooperative library projects such as the Center for Research Libraries and the Digital Library Federation; and knowledge of the strengths of other research collections.'
Compensation and Benefits:
