UCI Composition Program

The primary administrators of the Composition Program are the Director and three Course Directors. Please feel free to contact us with questions about the Program or the individual courses. Daniel M. Gross, Director of Composition, is Associate Professor of English and core faculty in the Critical Theory Emphasis. His current work in the history and theory of rhetoric is a book project on The Art of Listening.

Lynda Haas, Associate Director of Composition and Course Director for 39B, is interested in the connections between composition, cultural studies, film theory, and feminist theory. She is currently working on several projects to research and assess the delivery of composition courses at UCI. Bobbie Jo Allen is Course Director for 39A and AP. She is interested in art theory and criticism, as well as composition theory and the use of technology in the classroom. She is currently working on a volume of poems.

Tira Palmquist has been with the Composition Program since 2001, and is currently Course Director for Argument and Research (WR 39C). A playwright as well as a teacher, Tira's plays have been seen recently in LA, Chicago, Florida and NYC.
