UCI日本語プログラムへようこそ!
The University of California, Irvine, is one of the campuses of the University of California system. The UCI campus was opened in 1965 but already has a considerable reputation as a research university, ranking among the top 50 universities in the US in polls.
The Department of East
Asian Languages and Literatures was founded in 1989, although some East
Asian languages courses were taught before that time. At present, the department
houses ten ladder-rank faculty and a roster of fifteen lecturers. Annual
student enrollment in all classes has remained consistently at just over
2,000 students over the last five years. We offer undergraduate degrees
in Chinese, Japanese, and East Asian Cultural Studies, as well as Ph.D.
degrees in the same fields.
Our Japanese program
is the largest among the three programs, with a total enrollment of approximately
300 students in all Japanese language classes this fall. About 40 students
are Japanese Language and Literature majors; the remainder are taking courses
in order to fulfill generall education requirements or to develop language
skills that will help them be competitive in an increasingly global job
market.
