Born and raised in Berlin, Germany, I first came to the U.S. as an undergraduate student in 2001. After receiving a B.A. in English at Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL, I spent two years at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign earning an M.A. in Comparative Literature. I came to UC-Irvine in 2006, and am planning to take my qualifying exams in Spring of 2008. My primary literature of choice is Gegenwartsliteratur (especially Migrantenliteratur and Wendeliteratur), and my theoretical background consists to a large degree of Diaspora Studies, Postcolonial Studies and Cosmopolitanism. Next to the research, I also thoroughly enjoy teaching German to UCI students. My non-academic interests include dancing, cooking, traveling, and spending Sunday evenings watching Tatort.
