The Humanities Center awards grants to faculty and graduate students for collaborative research projects. Collaborative projects typically involve conferences, symposia and/or collaborative research. All collaborative proposals must include at least one UCI faculty member or graduate student. Conferences and symposia must be held on the UCI campus.

Complete applications include the following:

• Cover sheet
• Resumes of proposers (one page per proposer)
• Abstract (100 words maximum)
• Narrative description of project (1,000 words maximum)
• List of conference participants, with one-page resumes (if applicable)
• Itemized project budget

Faculty Grants ($4,000 maximum)

Proposals may include requests for support in the following areas:

• Travel and travel-related expenses of invited conference participants (non-UCI faculty)
• The payment of honoraria to invited conference participants (the Center will not fund honoraria in excess of $500, except in exceptional cases)
• The purchase of supplies directly related to the project (excludes computers, printers and other hardware, and personal items)
• Manuscript preparation or publication subsidies (excluding indexing) up to $1500

Faculty collaborate proposals must indicate matching funds from other sources.

Graduate Student Grants ($1,500 maximum)

Proposals may include requests for support in the following areas:

• Travel and travel-related expenses directly related to the project
• The payment of honoraria to invited conference participants (the Center will not fund honoraria in excess of $500, except in exceptional cases)
• The purchase of supplies directly related to the project (excludes computers, printers and other hardware, and personal items)

The Center will NOT provide funding for projects that take place after the expenditure deadline.
