++World Cities Lecture Series: Professors Tim Tackett and Vinayak Chaturvedi gave wonderful lectures on Paris and Bombay. Thank you to all who helped make the 2007-08 World Cities series a success!

++June 5, 2008: Congratulations to the history department and History Project for receiving three large grants for 2008-2009.

In collaboration with the Orange Unified School District, the UCI History Project, the Department's
decade-old professional development initiative for middle and high school history teachers in
Orange County, secured a grant in the amount of $984,045 from the U.S. Department of Education
for a three-year project to improve instruction in American history in OUSD schools.
In another collaboration with the Santa Ana Unified School District, the History Project received
a grant for thecontinuation of a TeachingAmerican History project for a fourth year of work in 2008-9.
This grant from the US Department of Education is in the amount of $67,000 that will come to UCI.
And a third grant from the California Department of Education to fund a project that fosters the
use of the history classroom as a site for literacy training will bring another $197,662 into the
university in the coming year.

Professor Sarah Farmer has been named a National Humanities Center Fellow for her project: Frenchmen into Peasants: Yearning for Country Life in Twentieth-Century France (Florence Gould Foundation Fellowship; Fellows' Fellowship).
